Doing away with wrinkles...
By Dr. Yves Hébert,
Cosmetic Physician and General Practitioner

Over the years, cosmetic medicine has become a modern science that uses advanced technologies and evolving techniques. This type of medicine is an art form, and the physician who practices it is the artist. Armed with a palette of products and technologies, coupled with his "artistic" sense, the physician can restore youth and radiance to lifeless skin, play with the volume of an aging face, and modify the body of less slender forms in a harmonious way.

Here is a brief overview of available technologies that camouflage the signs of time.

Heredity, sun exposure and smoking are the most significant causes of skin aging. However, we must not overlook the role that other factors play in the aging process, including nutrition, hydration, exposure to air pollution and free radicals.

The face and hands are often more damaged due to the direct exposure to air and signs of aging manifest themselves into wilting skin and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Here are some examples:

  • Around the mouth: marionette lines that lower the corners of the lips and perioral lines, where lipstick often gets lodged in the creases.
  • On the glabella: frown lines, the two or three vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows that increase heaviness to our look and give the face an air of severity.
  • Crow’s feet: fine lines that fan out towards the temple from the corner of the eyes.

A Successful First!

On March 21, the clinic hosted a conference on the innovations in aesthetic medicine and line and wrinkle filler injections. The event, sponsored by Esthélis, an injectable product used in the correction of lines and wrinkles distributed throughout Canada, attracted strong interest from our clientele. Given its success, we will be hosting a series of such conferences three or four times a year. All newsletter subscribers will automatically receive an invitation to these upcoming events. Watch your inbox for our next conference invitation!

Here are some pictures taken at the conference ...

You CAN improve your appearance without going under the knife!
By Dr. Yves Hébert

Some people want to look a few years younger, while others want to improve their figure and waistline, but most are not prepared to go under the scalpel. Cosmetic medicine meets the growing needs of a clientele that looks for less invasive methods that are less radical than surgery. Click here to read more.

A trend begins to develop

In recent years, cosmetic medicine seems to have taken precedence over cosmetic surgery. This phenomenon has been observed in the United States, France as well as in Canada. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the number of surgical procedures grew annually by 8% from 1997 to 2006. During this period, non-surgical procedures increased by 747%. Without having similar statistics for Quebec, we can assume the same trend.

Less invasive cosmetic procedures are clearly experiencing a stronger growth than surgical procedures. The aging of baby boomers, the sociological changes and technological advances in medicine have led to this increased interest in cosmetic medicine. Cosmetic procedures are becoming more mainstream, and the practice is no longer just for women. It appears that men are now responsible for seeking out 20% of all procedures.

Without claiming to replace surgery, which offers more dramatic results, cosmetic medicine achieves more than satisfactory results without the inconveniences and risks of surgery.

Cosmetic medicine responds to the needs of a clientele that cannot afford long absences from work; that want a discreet approach that will almost go unnoticed; and want to prevent the signs of aging rather than simply living with them. The results obtained with injectables last longer, and technologies are more efficient and safer than ever. Furthermore, the results are more consistent from one session to another because they are easy to replicate.
