Laser Hair Removal: The Gold Winning Treatment
By Sonia Gianfrancesco, Hair Removal Technician

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing saw the emergence of a star this year, 8 gold medal winning swimming sensation, Michael Phelps. Surprisingly, gold medals aren’t the only things making him famous, it is his sleek and svelte “swimmer’s body” that is gaining him loads of adoration. Widely known as part of the "swimmer's regime", hair removal is an important aspect in creating the perfect swimmer's build. Today, it’s not only those training for gold medals that are also leaning towards laser hair removal.

Men and women alike are now trying to achieve that winning Olympic look. For the long-term elimination of unwanted hair, laser hair removal is now the method of choice. To obtain the perfect results, depending on the degree of hairiness, surface area, type of skin and darkness, clients should plan on a number of sessions.

Dr. Yves Hebert, uses the gold standard in hair removal, Diode laser treatment, Soprano from Alma Lasers. This innovative new product can remove large areas of unwanted hair in areas such as the back and thighs, faster than any other lasers on the market with next to no pain!

Choosing a medical clinic for laser treatments is a wise decision. It provides in-house medical supervision thereby offering a fully-secure environment. Should there be complications or secondary effects, a physician can react swiftly with appropriate measures.

Individual factors are evaluated and the treatment schedule is planned at an initial consultation, conducted by Dr Hebert's qualified staff.

Hair transplants:
Even your hairdresser will
be fooled!

by Dr. Yves Hébert,
Cosmetic Physician

In the past, some hair transplants looked like doll’s hair or a carefully planted cornfield. Fortunately, things have changed! Although the improved hair replacement technique is more difficult for the doctor to perform, the procedure is more comfortable for the patient, and the results are more natural than ever. The basic method is the same, but has been considerably refined. A hair transplant is in fact a redistribution of hair from the crown to thinned-out areas. Since crown hair doesn’t fall out, it stays well in place once reimplanted elsewhere. The grafts—much finer than before—are now cut and inserted with greater accuracy. As with a non-cosmetic transplant, a local anesthetic is applied to the scalp.

Following the procedure, the patient must avoid strenuous physical activity for a few days, and can generally return to work within three to four days. However, because of the visible swelling of the forehead that lasts four to five days, and discomfort in the area around the scar at the back of the neck (seven to 10 days), as well as little scabs on the scalp (10 to 14 days), some patients prefer to stay home until everything is back to normal. There is no risk of serious complications if the transplant is carried out by an experienced team with a proven track record. Regrowth can take a number of months—optimal results are obtained nine to 12 months after surgery. Once the hair has grown back, even the sharpest observers can’t tell the difference.

Now that there are more advanced techniques, people who are bothered by their hair loss should consult a cosmetic surgeon. Since every case is unique, an individual consultation is required.

Star treatments this month:
liposculpting and recontouring

Localized fat

People may reach their healthy weight or follow a weight-loss diet and an exercise program, and yet unattractive rolls of fat-a double chin, "love handles", "heavy sides", "saddle bags", or a little potbelly-may gradually appear and become permanent.

Numerous attempts to lose weight by following diets that may be more or less strict often end in failure-and a gradual increase in weight to boot!

Regular exercise may help a person feel in better shape, but it has a rather limited effect on those rolls of fat. After all, to lose one pound of fat, a person has to burn 3500 calories, a figure that represents many hours of cardiovascular exercise, such as running, cycling, using a treadmill, or swimming.

A well-balanced diet combined with a moderately restricted calorie intake and an exercise program adapted to an individual's capacities would certainly seem to be the formula for success. Unfortunately, rather few of us are ready to commit ourselves completely to changes that are perceived, quite wrongly, as major. Work, family obligations, lack of time, and increasingly sedentary habits conspire to keep us from applying ourselves to our personal well-being.

Here are proven treatments that can help you overcome
