Star treatment this month: The Sculptra
Welcome the New Year with a fresh new glow
Every year, after the holidays and new year’s, a new season emerges - awards season. The Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Academy Awards just to name a few, are all in a days work for celebrities that dazzle their size “0” couture gowns. To prepare for such lavish events, celebs go to extreme lengths to be ‘red carpet ready’ with strict diet and exercise. For those who endure the strict weight loss regimen, a once glowing and healthy face may become drab, and sunken in. Many turn to fillers and injectables, such as Sculptra, to add volume to give a fresh, youthful look.
As you can see, the stars have more than one trick up their sleeve! But hollow cheeks aren’t
always caused by drastic diets. Aging or illness can also be the culprit. And many people use Sculptra because they simply haven’t been blessed with beautiful cheekbone genes. We all have
our reasons!
Sculptra is a great technique used for sunken cheeks which works
differently than other injectables. Once injected in the dermis
below the skin, it stimulates new collagen formation. This leads to a gradual and natural
thickening of the skin and volume enhancement. Sculptra brings a
smooth look and lift to regain lost volume in facial features and
results are dramatic after only three or so half hour treatments.
For a little je-ne-sais-quoi that really makes a difference, find out more about Sculptra! In our
next issue, look for news about all of the injectables available at our clinic. In the meantime,

Resolutions 2009 :: Battle of the Bulge
Still trying to lose those one to two inches before bearing your
bikini bod? If sweating it out at the gym and eating like a rabbit
aren’t helping you shed the last few dress sizes, Ultrashape may
just be what the Doctor orders. In just one single treatment,
patients can see a reduction by nearly one inch! It does this by
treating fat deposits in slightly overweight patients with
ultrasound as a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
“The greatest benefit of the system is that it offers patients an
immediate solution dispensed right in the doctor’s office. It is
clinically proven to reduce circumference in just one sitting,
although we usually recommend a series of three sessions,” said Dr.
Yves Hébert. “With no downtime or recuperation
period, patients can walk out and resume their daily activities.”
Already approved in Canada since last year, Ultrashape has been
gaining more and more buzz due to such measurable results. Although
not a weight loss procedure, results are significant in those who
continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
For more information on how you can get rid of those last few
inches, please call 1.800.935.6616 or check out www.dryveshebert.com to schedule a consultation that best works with your schedule! |

For younger-looking hands
By Dr. Yves Hébert, Cosmetic Physician and General Practitioner
Our hands: they’re always visible yet we often neglect them, and they need much more than a
soap-and-water wash to keep their youthful appearance.
We tend to devote a lot of energy, time and money to our faces, teeth and hair, yet our beauty care
efforts seldom extend to our hands. Hands are the victims of multiple, ongoing
attacks, our hands unfortunately give away our age to the same degree as our faces can –
sometimes even more.
How many times do we hear patients complain that their hands are showing visible signs of
aging, while their faces are still young-looking because they make a point of caring for them
every day? For this reason, skin revitalization care for the hands is becoming increasingly
popular, and is now a key component of a good anti-aging treatment program.
What causes our hands to age?
There are two main causes:
1. Actinic damage, or changes due to exposure to the sun:
- Pigmentation disorders, such as age spots (lentigo)
- Precancerous or cancerous lesions
- Changes in collagen and elastic fibres, which cause the skin to become thinner and more
fragile
2. Changes in volume:
- Lower amounts of subcutaneous fat
- Reduced bone mass, deformations due to arthritis
- Enlarged veins
Fortunately, today there are any number of first-rate methods for slowing down hand aging and
restoring radiance and youth to your hands.
The most superficial damage can be treated using:
- Topical preparations that stimulate collagen and lighten the colour of the skin, including
Vitamin A derivatives (Retin-A®, Tazorac®, Differin®) and Vitamin C–based
preparations
- Chemical peels that use AHA (e.g., X-Fol by Medique)
- Light microdermabrasion with infusion of therapeutic substances (HydraFacial® for the
hands)
- Phototherapy (e.g, using BBL technology) to remove age spots
More profound damage extending to the dermis and fatty tissues can be treated using:
- Dermal filler injections (Teosyal®, Juvederm®, Esthelis®, Evolence®, among others)
- Stimulatory filler injections that boost collagen production (e.g., Sculptra® and
Radiesse®)
- Collagen stimulation technology (Accent®, Thermage®)
Unsightly dilated veins can be treated using:
- Sclerotherapy, i.e., injections of sclerosing solutions
- Vascular lasers
Before seeking treatment, think prevention. The only truly effective strategy for guarding
against actinic skin damage is to protect yourself, as often as possible, from the
devastating effects of the sun’s rays. That means regular use of UVB- and UVA-blocking
sun creams is a must!
As you can see, revitalizing the skin of the hands, as part of an overall program of improvements,
is possible and indeed desirable. The methods for achieving this are simple and effective – and
they lend themselves well to combined treatment, acting concurrently to combat the various
degrees of tissue degradation. The final result: hands that don’t give away their age, with skin that
is supple and firm, and none of those nasty age spots. Hands that you won’t have to hide any
more, and that you’ll be proud to wave!

Protect yourself from the sun – even in winter!
Winter is still here, but it’s still very important to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful
effects. Protection against UVA radiation is a must, even in the cold season!
This type of
radiation is always present in the atmosphere and has profound effects on your skin, causing it to
age prematurely. If you plan to be outside for any length of time, an SPF 15 or 20 cream is
recommended. |
